The bar in Pituba offers over 200 beer labels and new experiences for those who want to go further into the world’s most popular and oldest drink

A place where drinking beer is more than a moment of relaxation, it’s a complete experience: this is The Bunker – Beer Culture. Located on Alexandre Herculano Street, in Pituba – a hill that is a mandatory stop for those who like to go on a gastronomic tour around Salvador city – the bar was born on the initiative of friends Vinicio Carvalho and Marcelo Rodrigues.

Entering the space, the client comes across a large and charming air-conditioned lounge with wooden tables and a counter in the back and is greeted by the sommelier, who answers questions and guides visitors about the available beers. You will not find the labels listed on the menu, you have to go to the shelves and make your choice.

The options range from R$ 10.00 to R$ 450.00, among the most varied styles. Our tip is local labels, such as Proa Cervejaria’s excellent jackfruit beer, with the texture, aroma and taste of the fruit. Bahia, by the way, is very well represented by other delightfully unusual alternatives such as Feyh Bier’s “Apocalipse do São João”, which has jenipapo liquor in its composition and has an alcohol content of 9%, and “Itapuã”, from Água de Meninos, made with tapioca.

For a bite, among the delicious options, try The Bunker’s unbeatable pastrami sandwich, inspired by a classic scene from the movie “When Harry Met Sally”. It will make you lick your fingers. The menu specializes in matching drinks – and if you don’t know much about it yet, that’s fine. From some information, such as what the customer likes to eat or drink, the sommelier indicates the right beer and which dish goes better with the chosen drink.

The house has more than 200 labels available and has the largest list of Belgian beers in Bahia. By the way, did you know that Belgian beers are considered Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO? Yes! Go and learn these and other curiosities and tips with Vinicio, he knows a lot about it.

“Unlike a nightclub, a pub, the idea here is for people to know that they will find not only a large number of labels, but a maximum of variety of styles. We put the beer where it deserves to be: the oldest drink in the world with the greatest variety and power for matching”, explains Vinicio, who is responsible for selecting the list.

Adjacent to the main hall, the Baden Baden Room is a place reserved for events, especially the “The Bunker Invites” courses, where the bar hosts expert brewers for real immersions in the beer culture, this drink with so many stories to tell.
