Space has already functioned as a mechanic shop and nightclub at the same time

“A picturesque democratic space from Bahia”, is what it says in the Instagram biography. It is a diverse establishment, but the peculiarity is certainly what draws the most attention, as, during the day, the place normally worked as a tire shop, but, at night, the atmosphere was transformed into “A Borracharia”, a nightclub located in the most bohemian neighborhood of Salvador, Rio Vermelho, opened about 17 years ago.

Since 2013, however, the place only works as a nightclub. “There was never an idea of making A Borracharia as it is today. The space was built in the backyard of my family’s house. An uncle of mine made a place for events and we adapted it to be a nightclub”, explains Raphael Lopes, one of the establishment’s partners.

A Borracharia is a place where everyone meets at late night to dance and drink until morning light. This is how regulars define the place. It doesn’t matter if you’re hanging out in the Lower City, Itapuã or Rio Vermelho itself, everyone can meet and dance together there.

The decoration of the environment is also very peculiar. The floor is uneven, with tires at the entrance and artwork strewn across the walls. In addition, the customer is also faced with signs with sayings against prejudice and intolerance. Being a nightclub, the environment is very dark and has flashing lights.

Women report that people aren’t abusive in flirting there and that they don’t have to say no every thirty minutes to a suitor. So, here’s a tip for a safe environment for women to enjoy the night, with lots of music, joy and comfort.

A Borracharia is open on Thursday, from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am, and Friday and Saturday, from 11:59 pm to 5:00 am. The menu includes starters such as fries, dumplings and broths, all around R$20. Drinks range from R$13 to R$28, with varied options such as caipirinha, cuba libre, caipirosca and gin and tonic.
