Why Salvador?

Getting to know Salvador is to discover a little more of Brazil’s History. It was here that this continent-country began when Tomé de Souza founded the first Brazilian capital, on March 29, 1549. The city, guardian of historical treasures such as Mercado Modelo, the secular churches and Pelourinho, attracts people from all over the world not only for the culture, but also for the weather and the hospitality of the people who live here.

In Salvador, the sun heats, and the ocean refreshes the soul. The tropical weather has made the city become the official summer capital. It’s more than 50 km of beachs with warm waters and a beautiful seashore with bars, restaurants and wide space for sports practice, so you can enjoy Salvador as you wish.

Here, you can have the world’s best dip in the sea in Porto da Barra, experience the remarkable taste of palm oil and taste the unique spices that only Bahia has.

But come early because, in January, the city is already boiling with the popular parties. It has the mix of creeds at Lavagem do Senhor do Bonfim, a party that celebrates Bahia’s patron saint; the 2 of February, where the sacred and the profane celebrate Yemanjá, our queen of the sea; and Lavagem de Itapuã, with much Samba de Roda in the neighborhood that has always been sung, in verse and prose.

Visit Museums. Relive Jorge Amado’s story at Casa do Rio Vermelho. Get to know Pedra Fuarada, Cruz Caída. The Carmo Convent, the sunset at Barra Lighthouse and Itapuã Lighthouse. Have an ice cream in Ribeira!

Enjoy the Carnival, the biggest street party on the planet; and New Year’s Eve, the largest in Brazil, with 5 days of celebration. No matter what season of the year you come, the city will be always waiting for you, with open doors for you to mix up and try Salvador’s unique flavor.
