Perfect for families and for sports in the sea
Piatã beach is located very near to Itapuã. In 2015 Piatã gained a new waterfront, implantation of landscaping with restoration of the restinga area that was extended with the retreat of the paved area, besides the area for events with a space for installation of a stage. In addition, it has a children’s playground, gymnastics equipment, bike path. A structure with support building for the activities of the fishermen was also made available.
The revitalization of the coast between Itapuã and Piatã lines, enabled the restoration of old and new works of art, under the coordination of the Gregorio de Mattos Foundation (FGM). It was then that Piatã won a sculpture of the plastic artist Ray Vianna, which is 14 meters long and 7 meters high, named Caramuru-Guaçu. The work is a prehistoric fish of corten steel and concrete that causes a lot of curiosity. Check out this and other urban installations of Ray Vianna at this link.
Piatã Beach is known for tourists and locals who enjoy playing sports at sea. According to the World Surfing Champion, Armando Daltro, the recommendation for those who want to start practicing surfing is, certainly, Jaguaribe and Piatã beaches. These are better for beginners- for they are the safest- and also where the waves have the best training for that level of surfers. Armando has other surfing tips in Salvador at this link.
First of all, for kite surfers, it is necessary good weather and strong winds. The best condition is when winds are above 25km per hour. There is no age or weight that makes it impossible for you to practice. Children from 9 years old already have the ability to start in sports. In winter time, there is a more south and southeast wind, Piatã is the best place in Salvador, because it is a tip, a small peninsula, therefore more protected. This is also the beach suggested by the Bodyborder Uri Valadão:
“Piatã is a protected beach, it saves us in the winter. When the sea is stronger, it is always quieter. The conditions are better for the crowd that is learning, Stella Maris is for the professional crowd”.
This beach is also good for families as it has an area on the rocks that form small natural pools. It is ideal for small children, with the possibility of seeing small fish due to the crystalline waters. The open sea has a large strip of sand that is flanked by trees and coconut trees. During the ebb tide the sea recedes a lot and bathers play soccer, the famous “baba” – as they are called for they are informal football matches here.
In one of the entrances to the beach, a parking lot was built in front of the sea, which is very important for sunbathers who visit the area.
