Mentioned by Jorge Amado in several passages of his books, in 2018 it completes nothing less than 80 years old, but tradition is only one of the reasons why it’s worth visiting. In Porto do Moreira, the founder José Moreira da Silva’s recipes and the classics made with palm oil are all together. Mocotó, beef and egg moqueca, dobradinha and liver baits are just some of the delicacies of this luso-bahian restaurant that continues being part of the history and of downtown. Most of the dishes have been on the menu for decades and are popular among loyal customers, which includes the singer Caetano Veloso. Among them, galinha ao molho pardo (chicken with a sauce made of its blood), cod with vegetables and shrimp salad. Prices range from R$ 25 to R$ 70. The most requested in the house is the meat moqueca that comes with shrimp, egg, bell peppers and lots of palm oil. The side dishes are rice, pirão and water farofa.
