Just go through the front door and your experience of that night will begin. The smiles of those who welcome you, the cordiality and the attention give the feeling of belonging to the restaurant. Going to La Taperia is like going to dinner at a friend’s house, where you feel comfortable and know it will be fun and lively.

One of the first taperias (a house of Spanish snacks) in Salvador, the La Taperia restaurant has tapas and paella as its flagship. The chef, the Spanish Jose Morchon, and the Soteropolitan Juli Holler, owners of the restaurant, excel in the use of fresh ingredients, excellent service, visual dishes and music. They take care of small details with delicacy, like placemats and personalized napkins, which makes everything very cozy.

While you choose the dish and the drink, your evening will start with a courtesy from the house: a gazpacho in a small glass, like the one made of pumpkin with red wine reduction. To drink, we suggest the best negrone in town or the seriguela caipirinha. If you want something very Spanish, the best choice is the sangria jar.

If you are very hungry or just a little, the restaurant offers many tapas options, and the menu always has new things. The flagship is the Galician octopus with potatoes and paprika. It’s worth asking for the basket of artisanal breads accompanied by a fantastic fresh tomatoes sauce, all made in the house. Another good option are the shrimp lollipops breaded in bifun with wasabi alioli or the tuna tataki. For meat lovers, the tip is the beef slices, over fresh mushrooms and cocoa nibs; black squid rice with alioli is also spectacular. Finally, for dessert, a cheese mousse with red fruit compote or dark chocolate mousse.

It may be the low light, the good music or the memories of Spain hanging on the walls that will make you want to stay longer. But the truth is that you will want to try all the drinks and dishes on the menu, especially because while the dishes are served, chef José Morchon strolls around the room giving all the attention and explanation of the ingredients and curiosities of the preparation.
