Salvador “skin and soul”! There is something in this place that you can only feel once you are here
People say it’s the light and that there’s nothing like the sunset here. The pepper, the palm oil, the maniçoba, the acarajé and the abará have a tourist spot status: if you don’t eat, it means you haven’t been to Bahia! Then you feel your whole body tremble with musicality sprouting from every corner, coming from the berimbau, the atabaques, the Afro Blocks, from the Bahian guitar being played for real! The largest bay in Brazil, with warm, crystalline water, is really from All Saints.
Salvador is axé and ancestry. There are cities inside the same city, a mix of art and culture. After all, we are talking about Brazil’s first capital! It’s syncretism, it’s Iansã and Santa Bárbara. It’s throwing flowers to the Queen of the Sea, is to walk to Igreja do Bonfim. There’s party all year round! We are Carnival! We are folia!
But the best of this land is the Bahian people. Welcoming people that meet you and ask “cadê você, man?” (Where are you, man?); when they want to call attention, they say ” Ó pá i, ó!!” (Look at this!); to invite someone, it’s valid only if it is “Venha, vá!” (Come. Come on!); and when they mean “see you soon!”, they affectionately say goodbye as “um cheiro!”.
Superlative people, who are not born, they debut. People who wear a coat when it’s 21 Celsius degrees and that in the rainy season are made of sugar. Soteropolitans are sunny! They like full house, celebrate with caruru and say goodbye to the day by looking at the sea.
“Entre tantas, Salvador”
It is in this atmosphere that the series “Entre Tantas Salvador” comes to tell stories about Brazilian and foreign travelers who fell so deeply in love that decided to stay here, to grow roots and to blend in once and for all.
Salvador collects stories like these and it makes everyone imagine that, in fact, there is something in this place that you can only feel once you are here: feel in the skin and in the soul.
The first episode is as special as the proposal. It brings Fernanda Slama’s testimony, a Rio journalist who has traveled the world but, three years ago, decided to grow roots here, in the palm oil land.
A resident of Rio Vermelho neighborhood, Fernanda came to visit the city for the first time during carnival, but it was after an Iemanjá Feast that she decided to stay.
“I arrived here during carnival, I ate my first acarajé at Pelô and found my great love on the Queen of the Sea day. Salvador has something I can’t explain. A smell, a sound, a light, a soft accent that sticks to the ear and invades the heart.”
Fernanda, who is the site content coordinator, invites everyone to know about her story, while inspiring us to immerse ourselves in this city, which, among many, enchants us with its important history and seduces with the mixture that it carries in its blood.
